About Monica
Monica Dosanjh, Registered Social Worker
Finding a safe space to share your story is essential to one's healing, recovery and transformation. Through nonjudgmental curiosity, humor, insight, and empathy, I create a safe space in which clients can begin to rewrite the major narratives of their lives. I would consider myself to be a casual therapist who truly believes in collaborative and respectful connections. It is also important to note that I would describe myself as a directive therapist, a “straight shooter”, who isn’t afraid to encourage the discomfort of therapy at times and support you toward personal growth and transformation.
I have had the privilege of working with people from many walks of life, across a broad range of issues to include self esteem/self confidence, relationship issues (marital/pre marital), racial identity issues, work related issues, family conflict and women’s issues.
My work has consisted of connecting with both individuals and couples. I use many approaches in my work such as Narrative Therapy, Strength Based, Culturally Sensitive, Emotion Focused Therapy and Solution Focused. I am trained in Level 1, 2 and 3 in the Gottman Method Approach for couples. I am also in the process of receiving my certification as a Menopause Coach. My style of practice is eclectic and pull from various approaches/modalities that will best suit the needs of the client.

Prior to full time work as a Social Worker, I was a Probation and Parole Officer for 18 years with the Ministry of Correctional Services. I have 20 years of experience working within various Employee Assistance Programs, various Social Service Agencies as well as private practice. As a woman of colour, it remains very important for me to recognize and respect the full range of our differences. As a result, I remain committed to a practice that promotes equity, inclusion and diversity. I am firmly committed to unpacking, affirming and validating any lived experiences that have been impacted by the various ISMS such as racism, sexism ,ageism, ableism, heterosexism and classism.
