Discover youth & teen therapy
Is this what your child is going through?
Second only to early childhood, adolescence is the period of the most growth; physiologically, cognitively, and socially. Combined with mounting pressures from within and without, this stage of life can be very overwhelming for many young people. Sometimes this state of overwhelm can lead tweens and teenagers to shutting down or developing symptoms of anxiety to help cope.
Young people at this stage of life are stepping out into the world searching for and claiming their identity, they are looking outward for a sense of self-worth, and are trying to find a sense of belonging outside of their family unit. Given these known developmental goals it makes them especially vulnerable to feelings of:
-
Shame
-
Anxiety
-
Depression
-
Low self-esteem (to name a few).
How youth / teen counselling can help
Through a trusted and non-judgmental counselling relationship, young people can have a safe space to discuss the most important issues in their lives.
Additionally, they can be introduced to healthy coping strategies to help protect against being anxiety and depression, and they can experiment with proven counselling interventions to help explore and challenge the connections between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.
